Postage Meters

Postage meters were developed to help business prepare bulk mailings in an efficient manner. The first machine in the US were located in New York around 1897. These meters could be directly printed on an envelope or onto a tape that could be affixed to the envelope like a stamp. These meters would often appear with slogans used to promote the business, help the war effort advertise charities or what ever the user please.

Throughout the years many ball clubs utilized meters to enhance their daily mailings with either the slogan for the year or upcoming events at the park.

Collectors could send to the ball club and request a printing. With the price set at 0.00 it did not cost the ball club to print the meter.
