The Minneapolis Division of the US Postal Series wanted to commemorate the Twins playing in the World Series, and came up with a special postmark to commemorate the event. The postal workers called the public relations department of the Minnesota Twins, who gave permission to use the team logo. With this approval the USPS printed envelopes and cards, stamped and postmarked and sold at 50c.

The postmark was used for the first two days of the series when they were informed by the Major League Baseball Commission that the USPS was violating trademark infringement and an 8.5% fee would be required to continue using the pictorial postmark.

Rather then give in to the demands, the postal workers quickly revised their design, removing the Twins logo and replacing it with a baseball flying out of the Merodome
