2002-Feb-01: legends of black baseball come to life in a new musical by local writer-director Raquis Petree and composer Marion Johnson. "Black Diamond: Satchel Paige and the Negro Leagues" plays through March 1 at the Smithsonian's Discovery Theater in celebration of Black History Month. The story tells the story of the Negro Leagues through the eyes of four principal figures: Andrew "Rube" Foster, the "father of black baseball"; Josh Gibson; Satchel Paige; and Jackie Robinson.
