The Chicago White Sox opened their new Comiskey Park, after playing in old Comiskey since 1910.

After opening the season on the road and compiling a 6-2 record, The Sox faced the Detroit Tigers, who posted a 16-0 victory before 42,191 fans. The Tigers scored all of their runs in the 3rd and 4th innings.
