American Legion Baseball is a amateur league played by 13-19 year olds. The program was established in 1925 Milbank, South Dakota

The League's traditional values teach the importance of sportsmanship, good health and active citizenship. The program promotes equality, making teammates out of young athletes regardless of their income level or social standing

In 2016 the team ahem changed to the Rumble Ponies, which honors the city's collection of antique carousels dating back to the 1800s. A rumble pony is the fierce hope on the carousel

Children from Washington, Pa named the league PONY which stood for Protect Our Neighborhood Youth. The motto has been updated to Protect Our Nation's Youth

George "Sparky" Anderson was a Major League player, coach and manager. He played second base for the Philadelphia Phillies for one season, 1959. After several season in the minor leagues, Anderson found his way into coaching and eventually the manager's office

His first managing stint at the Major League level was with the Cincinnati Red (1970-1978). In his first year with the Reds, Anderson's team finished with 102 victories and the National League pennant, only to lose the World Series to the Baltimore Orioles. He would eventually win two World Series championships with the Reds in 1975 and 1976

After his release from the Reds, the Detroit Tigers brought Anderson in to manage the team in 1979 until 1995, where the team would win the World Series in 1984, while again claiming 100 victories. Becoming the first manager to have 100-win seasons in both leagues. He was also the first manager to win World Series Championships in both leagues.

Pete Gray

50th Anniversary of game appearance against the Detroit Tigers

Pete Gray (b. Peter Wyshner) was a one-armed baseball player, making his debut for the StLouis Browns on April 17, 1946

A childhood accident caused his right arm to be amputated above the elbow. His enthusiasm for baseball led him to learn to bat and field one-handed. By the age of 19, he was playing outfield for the Hanover Lits of the Wyoming valley Anthracite League. he would go on to play semi-pro with Pine Gove in Pennsylvania and Scranton in Brooklyn.

Gray earned tryouts with the St Louis Browns and the Philadelphia Athletics, but did not get called by either team. Gray continued to play in the minor leagues and semi-pro, with eh Trois-Rivieres Renards of the Canadian-American League, the Memphis chicks of the Southern Association and the independent Brooklyn Bushwicks

The St Louis Browns purchased his contract from the Chicks, and he would go on to play 77 games, batting .218 with a .958 fielding average

The National High School Baseball championship - Summer Koshien is an annual nationwide tournament.
The  game was founded in 1915, with the ceremonial first pitch thrown on August 18, 1915. The event was organized by the Japan High School federation and Asahi Shimbun.  The tournament is held during the summer school vacation period, culminating in a 2-week final tournament
