Ted Williams Museum - Hitters Hall of Fame

1996-Feb-27 Hernando FL
Ted Williams Museum - Hitters Hall of Fame - Bevil cachet

The Ted Williams Museum and Hitters Hall of Fame opened in February 1994, in Hernando, Florida, in Citrus County—just a few blocks from the place where Williams lived in his later years.

In 2006, the museum and hall of fame were moved to Tropicana Field after its original facility in Hernando went bankrupt. As of 2025 the museum was closed

1995 - 20 legends of baseball history have the distinction of being the first group to be inducted into the Hitters Hall of Fame at the Ted Williams Museum. They were selected by Ted Williams himself who used his own "secret formula" to determine who should be honored.

Hall of Fame - 1986 : Doerr, McCovey, Lombardi

1986-Jan-08 New York NY - Hall of Fame Election

Baseball card pasted on cover by Elten Schiller
I had the honor and pleasure to meet with Mr Schiller at the Cooperstown post office to trade McCovey Induction covers.
The card used for the cover is taken from a San Diego Padres stadium promotion, which featured a McCovey Hall of Fame Induction pin

covers from Robinson Stamps, Babbitts, Gateway

Unique internet find -
Found this cover with Bobby Doerr autograph as part of a lot that was sold at auction. I find it interesting that the cachet, which was pasted-on had fallen off. The signature still maintains some value to the induction day cover

Willie McCovey Day - Candlestick Park

Willie McCovey was called "the scariest hitter in baseball" by pitcher Bob Gibson. McCovey played for the San Francisco Giants from 1959-1973 and 1977-1980. He also played for the San Diego Padres from 1974-1976 and the Oakland Athletics in 1976.

McCovey hit a total of 521 home runs. 231 were hit in Candlestick Park, home of the San Francisco Giants from 1960-1999. On September 16, 1966 McCovey hit a home that was considered the longest home run ever hit at the Stick.

In his Major League debut on July 30, 1959, McCovey went 4-for-4 against Robin Roberts and the Philadelphia Phillies, hitting two triples and two singles. He would be awarded NL Player of the Month for August and NL Rookie of the Year.

McCovey was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, 1986
