100th Anniversary 1910 Season: La Joie v Cobb

2010-Oct-10 Cooperstown
Bevil cachet #/51

1910-October-9 – Detroit Tigers star Ty Cobb stayed out of the lineup to preserve his .383 batting average. Cleveland Naps' Nap Lajoie went 8-for-8 in a doubleheader where six of his hits were bunt singles. He finished with a .384 batting average and rumor has it that the St. Louis Browns gave Lajoie the singles by playing too deep. American League president Ban Johnson investigated and found no wrongdoing.

December 15, 1988

July 23, 1989
First day covers for the St Vincent Baseball Hall of Fame series are seen with one of 2 different postmarks

St Vincent and the Grenadines, former British colony in the Winward Islands, has produced stamps since 1861. these featured the British monarchs head or the ER Mongram and crown until 1970. Stamps were then printed with "St. Vincent" until 1992 when stamps began carrying the "St. Vincent and the Grenadines" title

Since 1988 the country has been client of the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corporation (IGPC), which has been criticized for inappropriate (stamp subjects not related to the country) and excessive issues. The IGPC represents over 70 different countries

Ty Cobb

1951

I found this interesting cover on Heritage auctions site, consisting of postmarks from Ty Ty, Ga and Cobb, Ga, signed by Ty Cobb. An interesting use of postmarks to create a perusal collectible on which to obtain an autograph.

Cobb is a county in Sumpter, Ga. Ty Ty is located in Tif County, taking it's name from the local Ty Ty Creek

Ty Ty is the birthplace of Darby Cottle Veazy, 2-time All-american softball player from Florida State University. Elected to the FSU Hall of Fame, and had her number retired by the University. Winner of the Broderick Award

1985-Sep-08 Chicago
Pete Rose surpasses Cobb's all-time record of 4,190 hits

I am not aware of the winning bid on the above piece

1915 Postaco Stamps featured stars of the time. the image features a portrait sketch of the player with a red or yellow background. An uncut sheet sold at auction (2011) for over $2,000. The set has a total of 36 stamps with many hall of famers and measure 1 3/4 x 2 1/8". Under the player name is his position. at the bottom of the stamp is a copyright mark and the name Postaco.

The issues are scare even though an entire sheet had been located. On the graded sites fewer than 100 examples of the entire set have been graded. Of course as with stamps or baseball cards condition and centering effect the value

A poster stamp, cinderella stamp, was used as an advertising label or commemorative that is usually lager than most postage stamps. These stamps appeared in the mid-19th century and quickly became a collecting craze, declining in popularity after World War II. Not valid for postage these were often placed on envelopes to accompany the actual postage. The above images are for reference purposes and some have been cleaned up to show a better image. Postaco stamps can be found on many auction sites or on eBay.
