Forbes Field - Pittsburgh

Forbes Field was the third home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, after Recreation Park and Exposition Park. The Pirates played their home games at Forbes Field from 1909 until June 28, 1970, when the Pirates moved into Three Rivers Stadium.

1909, in the first season playing at Forbes, the Pirates deleted the Detroit Tigers in the World Series.
August 5, 1921, KDKA radio had the first live radio broadcast of a MLB game, when Harold W Arlin announced the play-by-play between the Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies.
May 25, 1935, Babe Ruth hit his last 3 career home runs, playing for the Boston Braves in a losing effort against the Pirates

Forbes Field was named after British General John Forbes, who fought in the French and Indian War.

Forbes Field was also home to the Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL), Pittsburgh Panthers (University of Pittsburgh - NCAA), Homestead Grays (Negro Leagues), Pittsburgh Americans (AFL) and Pittsburgh Phantoms (NPSL)
