1845, alexander Cartwright wrote down the rules for a new game that resembled Cricket or the children's game Rounders. He called the game Base Ball. On June 19, 1846, he gathered a group of people and they all hopped the ferry from Manhattan to Hoboken's Elysian Fields to participate in a game of Base Ball according to his written rules. The New Yorks defeated the Kinckerbockers 23 to 1. Cartwright served as the umpire - Project Ballpark

The Baseball Writers' Association of America voted by mail to select from recent major league players and elected : Warren Spahn (1942-1965 Boston-Milwaukee Braves, NY Mets, SF Giants). The BBWAA waived the waiting period for selection to the Hall to allow Roberto Clemente (1955-1972 Pittsburgh Pirates) to be inducted immediately following his death during a humanitarian mission

The Veterans Committee met in closed sessions to consider executives, managers, umpires and early major league players and selected : umpire Billy Evans, George Kelly (1915-1932 NY giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers) and Mickey Welch (1880-1892 Troy Trojans, NY Giants)

The Negro Leagues Committee met in person and selected : Monte Irvin (1938-1956 Newark Eagles, NY Giants, Chicago Cubs)

Legends of Baseball : All-Century Team - 2000

hand drawn cachet by comic strip artist Rick Stromoski, who drew the strip Soup to Nutz syndicated by the Newspaper enterprise Association from 2000-2018. A life-long Pirates fan, Stromoski would publish a strip in honor of Roberto Clemente every year on his birthday


The comic strip focused on the Nutz family, especially the three children, Andrew, Roy-boy and Babs. This is not your very day family

Legends Baseball Scrapbook and Stamp Album - USPS 1989

   
  
The USPS produce the Legends Baseball Scrapbook and Stamp Album, on sale 1989-Jun-12 at all post offices that sell philatelic products, all philatelic centers, and by mail order from the Philatelic Sales Division, Washington, DC. Priced at $7.95
The album featured one page about each of the players the USPS issued a stamp for, along with a place on the page for the stamp. The stamps were included in the album. There were an additional 3 pages of photographs of the player. the album measures 8.5 x 11
The album also came with 4 baseball cards that featured the USPS stamp image
