Pan American Games : 1999

Baseball at the 1999 Pan American Games was held between July 25 and August 2 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. A total of nine teams competed: Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and the United States. The primary venue for this competition was CanWest Global Park, while Stonewall Quarry Park in Stonewall, Manitoba, was used as a secondary venue.

Cuba entered the competition as the seven-time defending champions, having won each gold medal dating back to 1971. They successfully defended their title, with the United States finishing second (Silver), Canada finished third (Bronze)

Canada Post issued 4-stamps for the games featuring soccer, swimming, cycling and track

The 1999 Pan American Games, officially the XIII Pan American Games or the 13th Pan American Games, was a major international multi-sport event that was held from July 23 to August 8, 1999, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and surrounding towns and cities

Pan-American Games : 1951 - -

The Pan American (Pan Am) Games is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas, every four years in the year before the Summer Olympic Games. The Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) is the governing body of the Pan American Games movement, whose structure and actions are defined by the Olympic Charter

Panama issued a set of six stamps commemorating the 1959 Pan-American Games, Chicago, Il between August 28 and September 7Baseball at the Pan-American Games consisted of 9 participants. Games were played at Comiskey Park and Wrigley Field, Chicago
Venezuela - Gold; Puerto Rico - Silver; United States - Bronze

The games were originally awarded to Cleveland, but they had to withdraw their bid to host the event. Chicago and Sao Paulo, Brazil came forward to take over the games, with Chicago being selected to host the event

Trujillo Stadium, the ballpark named for the nation's not so beloved dictator, was nothing more than a band-box of concrete and steel, whitewashed and covered with red and black political posters.
