Olympic Baseball - 1984

 The US Olympic baseball demonstration team tour, June 11-July 28, participated in games throughout the US, playing against the South Korea, Japan, Stan Musial All-Stars, Jackson Mets, Louisville Redbirds, Greenville Braves, Tri-City Triplets, as well as several local All-Star teams

Dodger Stadium

Eight teams competed in the demonstration sport. 
White Division: Chinese Taipei, Dominican Republic, Italy, United States
Blue Division: Canada, Japan, South Korea, Nicaragua
Cubs originally qualified for the competition, but withdrew as a result of the Soviet-led boycott
Japan defeated the United States for the Gold Medal with a 6-3 victory

The Netherlands baseball team finished second in the 1983 European Baseball Championship and did not qualify for the 1984 Olympics

Previously baseball had been played at the Olympics as an exhibition sport.
1984 was the first time baseball was played at an Olympics held in the United States
Games were played in Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles

  • Chinese Taipei - 1983 Asian Baseball Championship silver medalist (tied)
  • Dominican Republic - 1983 Pan American Games fourth place (replaced Cuba - Soviet boycott)
  • Italy - 1983 european Baseball Championship gold medalist
  • United States - host nation - 1983 Pan American Games gold medalist
Blue Division
  • Canada - 1983 Pan American Games bronze medalist
  • Japan - 1983 Asian Baseball Champion silver medalist (tied)
  • South Korea - 1983 Asian Baseball Championship gold medalist
  • Nicaragua - 1983 Pan American Games silver medalist
First place - Japan
Second place - United States
Third place - Chines Taipei
As a demonstration sport no official medals were awarded
