Mystery Cover

November 11, 1978 was a Saturday. This pictorial postmark celebrated the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. However this postmark is dated on Nov 10 (Friday). Possibly the postmark was used over a 3-day period for a show.

The cover honors Carl Erskine and is signed by him. Erskine is from Anderson, Indiana and played for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers (1948-1959). The postmark is from Berwyn, Illinois.
Erskine wore number 17 for the Dodgers...

Cezchopex is a stamp show held in Berwyn, Il. From the 1920s through the 1970s, Berwyn had a large Czechoslovakian population. Erskine is a Scottish name..

Not sure the origin of the cover or the tie-in between the postmark and Carl Erskine..?

Brooklyn Dodgers

June 2, 1981 Brooklyn, NY
NY State Governor Hugh Carey proclaimed this day Brooklyn Dodgers Day to help kick of a campaign to elect Gil Hodges to the Baseball Hall of Fame. A reunion of Dodgers also coincided with a movement sponsored by State Senator Tom Bartosiewicz and Assemblyman John Branca (Ralph's brother) to bring a team back to Brooklyn.

Inaugural dedication of the Brooklyn dodgers Hall of Fame, held at the Brooklyn Public Library. Commemorative cover to honor the event inducting Gil Hodges, Carl Furillo and Carl Erskine in the Hall of Fame.

Marty Adler (1937-2013) was an educator and Brooklyn Dodger advocate. When Jackie Robinson died in 1972, Adler campaigned to have his school, Crown Heights Intermediate School 320 renamed for Robinson, not just as a baseball player, but has a human rights activist.

In 1984 Adler helped create the Dodger exhibit at the central Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza and held the first ceremony outside the building on the front steps. Inducted that day were Gil Hodges, represented by his widow Joan, Carl Furillo and Carl Erskine - The Boys of Summer...
