It was alleged that the 2017 Astros used technology to illicitly steal their opponents' signs and relay it to their hitters. This was later confirmed through numerous citizen sleuths, and it showed the Astros used this method throughout the 2017 season, and part of the 2018 season. MLB found the Astros used technology to cheat during their 2017 season and suspended A.J. Hinch and Astros' general manager Jeff Luhnow for one season; the Astros fired Luhnow and Hinch the same day. Alex Cora, who was the Astros bench coach in 2017 and the Red Sox manager from 2018 to 2019, parted ways with the Red Sox after the scandal broke

The Astros wore a patch during the 2017 World Series in support of Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston

Jim Deshaies


Jim Deshaies pitched for the New York Yankees (9184) Houston Astros (1985-1991) San Diego Padres (1992), Minnesota Twins (1993, 1994) San Francisco Giants (1993) Philadelphia Phillies (1995) finishing his career with a 84-95 record and 951 strikeouts.

Deshaies set a milestone in his debut with the Yankees as the 1,000th person to play an official game for the Yankees. He would pitch in 2 games for the Yankees before they traded him to the Houston Astros.

September 23, 1986 pitching against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Deshaies set a major-league record by striking out the first eight batters of the game (Steve Sax, Reggie Williams, Enos Cabell, Pedro Guerrero, Alex Trevino, Jeff Hamilton, Dave Anderson)

The Astros would go one to win the game 4-0, with Deshaies earning his 10th victory of the season, against 5 losses

Houston Astros



The Houston Astros were established as the Houston Colt .45s as a National League expansion team in 1962. The team changed their name to the Astros in 1965 to recognize NASA's involvement in the city of Houston when they opened the Johnson Space Center in 1963. The Astros moved from Colt Stadium to the Astrodome in 1965.

In 2013 the Astros moved from the National League to the American League

Prior to the Houston franchise in Major League Baseball, a minor league clue the Houston Buffaloes started play in 1888, with many variation of the team name and levels of play until 1961.
