MVP: Mariano Rivera (NYY) - Rivera, who retired at the end of the season, was named the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. Rivera pitched in the 8th inning and retired all 3 batters he faced. He was the first reliever selected to an All-Star team to ever receive the award, as well as the first pitcher since Pedro Martínez in 1999. The American Association's award went to Oklahoma City 89ers outfielder Juan Gonzalez for his two run homer in the 3rd, he would finish the game going 2-5. Syracuse Chiefs second basemen Luis Sojo won the International League award going 4-5 with a triple and a run scored. Eddie Williams of the home town Las Vegas Stars won the award for the Pacific Coast League going 1-2 with a RBI, run scored and a stolen base
