Hank Aaron : Janesville Stamp Club 2025

2025-Feb-08 Janesville WI

As reported on the AFDCS Facebook pages: The Janesville Stamp Club's Hank Aaron covers had to be reworked a couple of times. They had to modify the cancel which originally included the wording "Honoring Hank Aaron." USPS stated they couldn't use his name due to copyright issues. In light of this, they replaced his image on the cachet with generic clipart just to be on the safe side

On April 8, the USPS unveiled the design of a stamp in honor of baseball great Henry "Hank" Aaron.
The USPS revealed the surprise addition to it's 2024 stamp program on the 50th anniversary of Aaron hitting his record-breaking 715th home run during an April 8, 1974 game between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers

Aaron who played for the Braves at the time, broke Babe Ruth's record of 714 home runs that had stood since 1935

Art by Chuck Styles, eliminated the Screaming Braves logo from the left sleeve, normally found on the jersey. “That was a decision to remove the patch that I decided to make on my own,” Styles, the Philadelphia artist whose original portrait is being used for the Aaron commemorative stamp, told Linn’s. The Braves stopped using the logo in 1989 - Linn's Stamp News

Hank Aaron - right fielder for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers, 1954-1976. Hammerin' Hank held the Major League record for career home runs when he surpassed Babe Ruth on April 8, 1974 to hit his 715 home run off Al Downing of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth inning in Atlanta. Aaron would hit his 733 on October 2, 1974, in his farewell game with the Braves. However Aaron decided not to retire and was traded to the Brewers so he could finish his career in the city he started in. Aaron would finish with a career total of 755 home runs, a record which stood for 33 years...

Aaron received an outpouring of public support in response to the bigotry, hate mail and threats he received. Charles Schulz in his Peanuts cartoon, August 1973 saw Snoopy attempt to break Ruth's record and in turn receives hate mail. Snoopy would fall one home run short, as Charlie Brown gets picked off of first with Snoopy at bat..

1982 Hank Aaron was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame

Southeastern Stamp Expo - 2017

These 3 commemorative postmarks were used during the Southeastern Stamp Expo, Norcross, Ga
Although I have not been able to confirm this information, it is my belief that the postmarks commemorate the 2017 Atlanta Braves baseball season, Hank Aaron #44 and the new park the Braves will be using in the 2017 season.

The Braves moved into Turner Field in 1997, after 30 years they welcome SunTrust Park. The home opener for the 2017 season is scheduled for April 14 against the San Diego Padres.
