The Lacrosse Hall of Fame Foundation, Baltimore, Maryland, issued a 15-cover set titled Kings of Sport between 1974 and 1976. Art craft prepared the cachet series. 

The Red Grange King of Sport cachet is the only cover not to have a number as part of the design. 3000 of each cachet was printed. The first copy of the Jim Thorpe King of Sport #1 was mailed to noted athlete President Gerald Ford. The second cover was sent to NFL Commissioner Pete Roselle..

King of Sport 16, Jim Brown was planned for Nov 24, 1976. Prior to issuance a notice was sent out "Due to unfortunate circumstances beyond our control, we regret that the cover honoring Jim Brown cannot be issued at this time as scheduled. Also due to these circumstances it now appears that projected future issues of Kings must be indefinitely postponed.."

Original pricing was $1.00 per cover prior to cancellation, and $1.50 after cancellation.
