From 2001 to 2004, Ichiro had more hits (924) than anyone in history over any four-year period, breaking the record of 918 that Bill Terry accumulated from 1929 to 1932; Terry, however, played in 34 fewer games than Ichiro during their respective four-year spans. He would later surpass his own mark by recording 930 hits from 2004 to 2007. During one 56-game stretch in 2004, Ichiro batted over .450. By comparison, Joe DiMaggio batted .408 during his record-setting 56-game hitting streak. Ichiro batted over .400 against left-handed pitching in 2004.

Robeson was an American bass-baritone concert artist, stage and film actor, professional football player, and activist who became famous both for his cultural accomplishments and for his political stances

Robeson attended Rutgers University on an Academic Scholarship, but proceeded to earning varsity letter in multiple sports, although he excelled in football earning all-American status in both his junior and senior years

New Black Panthers are a men's baseball team from Ronchi dei Legionari, a municipality in the province of Gorizia

Grosseto Baseball Club was relegated to Series C after the 2011 season due to financial troubles. As a result, the franchise shut down after 60 years. In 2012 a new team was established to replace the old one under the name Grosseto Baseball.

The 2013 season concluded on September 22 when San Marino Baseball Club defeated Rimini Baseball Club for the Championship

Ed "Whitey" Ford "the Chairman of the Board", was an American professional baseball pitcher who played his entire 16-year Major League Baseball career with the New York Yankees. He was a 10-time All-Star and 6-time World Series champion. In 1961, he won both the Cy Young Award and World Series Most Valuable Player Award. Ford led the American League (AL) in wins three times and in earned run average twice.

Richie Ashburn - In Memoriam

Don Richard Ashburn (March 19, 1927 – September 9, 1997)

American center fielder in Major League Baseball. 
One of the famous "Whiz Kids" of the National League champion 1950 Phillies, Ashburn spent 12 of his 15 major-league seasons as the Phillies' center fielder (1948–1959). Chicago Cubs (1960–1961) New York Mets (1962)

He sported a .308 lifetime batting average, leading the National League twice, and routinely led the league in fielding percentage.

One of the most beloved sports figures in Philadelphia history, his jersey #1 was retired and was inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame in 1979
He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995

Baseball at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held on two separate diamonds within the Helliniko Olympic Complex. For the second time in Olympic competition, professional baseball players were eligible to participate, though no active players from Major League Baseball were available

The Greek Post Office (ELTA) introduced 35 hand postmarks to celebrate the sporting disciplines of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, which were available at Olymphilex from August 12-22,  2004. After 22 August, the postmarks were available from the Philatelic Centre in Athens
