1961 - 15th Amateur World Series - Costa Rica

The Baseball World Cup was an international tournament in which teams from around the world competed. The event was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation. The first event held in 1938 featured two teams. But the final event in 2011, there were 22 participants
1961 Amateur World Series was the 15th held. it was the only time the vent was held in Costa Rica, taking place in San Jose from April 7 through April 21. This was the first international tournament to feature a Cuban team since the Cuban Revolution. 

The Cuban team won the tournament with a 9-0 record, Mexico finished second with a7-2 record. Other countries participating were: Venezuela, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua and El Salvador

Frank Sinatra : Baseball in the Arts


Frank Sinatra (1915 – 1998) American singer and actor. Nicknamed the "Chairman of the Board" and later called "Ol' Blue Eyes", Sinatra was one of the most popular entertainers of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. He is among the world's best-selling music artists with an estimated 150 million record sales

Sinatra co-starred again with Gene Kelly in the musical film Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949), in which Sinatra and Kelly play baseball players who are part-time vaudevillians

1968 Sinatra joined friend Leo Durocher, manager of the Chicago Cubs at a spring training game. It was reported by the players that Sinatra "managed" 2-innings of the game

Sinatra had his own charity softball/baseball team the "Swooners" which featured Anthony Quinn, Barry Sullivan, Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne, with cheerleaders: Virginia Mayo, Marilyn Maxwell, Shelley Winters and Ava Gardner

Junipero Serra y Ferrer O.F.M. (1713-1784) was a Spanish Catholic priest and missionary of the Franciscan Order. Fr. Serra founded a mission in Baja, California and the first 9 of 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco
