River Cats at the State Fair

The Sacramento River Cats are a Minor League Baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and are the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Prior to 2015, the River Cats were the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics for 15 seasons. They are based in West Sacramento, California, and play their home games at Sutter Health Park which opened in 2000 and was known as Raley Field through 2019

Johnny Mize "The Big Cat"

John Robert Mize (1913 – 1993), "The Big Cat", professional baseball player, coach and scout. He played as a first baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 15 seasons between 1936 and 1953, (St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, New York Yankees) Mize was a ten-time All-Star 

He was selected for induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1981. In 2014, he was inducted into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum

Cuba issued a baseball stamps along with stamps for volleyball and boxing

Baseball at the 1999 Pan American Games was held between July 25 and August 2 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. A total of nine teams competed: Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and the United States. The primary venue for this competition was CanWest Global Park, while Stonewall Quarry Park in Stonewall, Manitoba, was used as a secondary venue.

Cuba entered the competition as the seven-time defending champions, having won each gold medal dating back to 1971. They successfully defended their title, with the United States finishing second (Silver), Canada finished third (Bronze)

Canada Post issued 4-stamps for the games featuring soccer, swimming, cycling and track

The 1999 Pan American Games, officially the XIII Pan American Games or the 13th Pan American Games, was a major international multi-sport event that was held from July 23 to August 8, 1999, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and surrounding towns and cities

1845, alexander Cartwright wrote down the rules for a new game that resembled Cricket or the children's game Rounders. He called the game Base Ball. On June 19, 1846, he gathered a group of people and they all hopped the ferry from Manhattan to Hoboken's Elysian Fields to participate in a game of Base Ball according to his written rules. The New Yorks defeated the Kinckerbockers 23 to 1. Cartwright served as the umpire - Project Ballpark
