Tacoma's first team in the Pacific Coast League was the tacoma Tigers, who moved from Sacramento prior to the 1904 season, moving back to Sacramento midway through the 1905 season. Another Tacoma Tigers franchise operated in the Western Leagues from the 1930s through to 1951, when the team relocated to Idaho. In 1960 Tacoma again had a team when the Giants affiliate moved from Arizona. The team did not take on the name "Tigers".  Following affiliations with the Giants, Cubs, Twins, Yankees, they became an affiliate of the Indians under the nickname "Tugs" before returning to the nickname "Tigers" in 1980. In 1981 the team changed affiliation to the Oakland A's, retaining the name Tigers
