Personalized Stamps : Boston Red Sox

Premier Postage Powered by Pitney Bowes (eBay find)

Personalized postage stamps :

In 2004, the USPS decided to allow certain companies to facilitate the making of custom US postage stamps that could be used as actual postage. Several companies provided the stamps printed with images provid the customer.

In 2020 the USPS discontinued the practice, due in part to legal issues of people uploading images that infringed on trademark or copyrights, use of graphic or inappropriate images and loss of revenue by the USPS in selling their own stamps

Topps - 1961

As part of the 1959-1960 and the 1960-1961 Topps Hockey trading cards, panels of 2 stamps were inserted in each wax pack of cards. The stamps from the 1960-1961 set featured a player photo in the middle of an ornate frame, printed in blue, the design reminiscent of the US postage stamps of the 1920's

1961 Topps decided to replicate this in their baseball issues. The set consisted of 207 stamps measuring 1 3/8 x 1 3/16, sawtooth perforated in panels of 2 stamps. The designs featured a portrait of the player within an ornate frame and were either printed in green or brown.
104 players were printed in green and 104 were printed in brown, with Al Kaline being printed in both colors. The pairs are printed in random order and players may have different combinations

The stamps are unnumbered and usually listed in alphabetical order by team: Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, St Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Washington Senators
Tops sold stamp albums for collectors to place their stamps in.
