MVP: Mariano Rivera (NYY) - Rivera, who retired at the end of the season, was named the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. Rivera pitched in the 8th inning and retired all 3 batters he faced. He was the first reliever selected to an All-Star team to ever receive the award, as well as the first pitcher since Pedro MartÃnez in 1999. Given his pending retirement, the award was given in recognition of his outstanding career
