1982 Sporting News Manager of the Year
The Sporting News was a print magazine, now a digital only publication that was established in 1886 becoming the dominant publication covering baseball. Published weekly it was known as the Bible of Baseball.
1936 the Sporting News established the Manager of the year award, annually to one manager expanding to one from each league in 1986.
White Herzog played professionally from 1956-1963 (Washington Senators, KC Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers) before moving to roes as scout, farm system director, general manager and field manager (Texas Rangers, California Angels, KC Royals, St Louis Cardinals).
Herzog led the 1982 Cardinals to a World Series Championship. The Cardinals went 92-70 on the season for their first National League East Division title. They defeated the Atlanta Braves to win the National League Championship. In the World Serie the Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4 games to 3..
