Spring training by major league teams in sites other than they regular season game sites first became popular in the 1890s, by 1910 was in wide use. Hot Springs, Arkansas has been called the original birthplace of spring training baseball used by the Chicago White Stockings (Chicago Cubs)
The Philadelphia Phillies were the first team to re-locate their spring training home to Florida in 1889, starting the Grapefruit League
Bill Veeck brought the Cleveland Indians to Arizona, after purchasing the team in 1946. In 1947 with the Indians in Tucson, Veeck convinced the New York Giants to move to Phoenix, creating the Cactus League
Arizona is home to the Cactus League, the spring training site for fifteen major league teams. Games are played in ten stadiums around the Phoenix metropolitan area
