Cal Ripken Jr, played 21 seasons for the Baltimore Orioles. Complied 3,184 hits, 431 home runs, 1,695 RBIs. Won 2 Gold Gloves, 19-time All-Star and named American League MVP twice and American League Rookie of the Year.
He earned the nickname "The Iron Man" for breaking Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played. Gehrig's record of 2, 130 games had stood for 56 years and thought to be unbreakable, until Ripken entered the game. He would go on to play in 2,632 consecutive games played before taking himself out of the Orioles lineup on September 20, 1998, before the final home game of the season when rookie third baseman Ryan Minor started in his place. Ripken surpassed Gehrig on September 6, 1995 in his 2,131st game.
Ripken retried from baseball in 2001, playing his final game on Oct 6..
Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007
From Pristine Auctions, an autographed baseball with a commemorative 40th home run mark(not postally valid), the ball is signed and is a nice oddity
