Bucky Dent hired as Yankee Manager
Bucky Dent played for the Chicago White Sox (1973-1976) New York Yankees (1977-1982) Texas Rangers (1982-1983) Kansas City Royals (1984). A 3-time All-Star, 2-time World Champion and World Series MVP in 1978.
Dent is best known for hitting a 3-run home run that gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead over the Boston Red Sox in the 1978 AL East division tie-breaker game. The Yankees would go on to win the game 5-4, advancing the Yankees to the playoffs, nocking the Red Sox out.. Dent was not a home run hitter having only hit 40 in his career, and batted in the ninth position.
Always a fan favorite, Dent went on to manage in the Yankees minor league system, eventually moving to the big club in the middle of the 1989 season. Dent compiled a record of 18-22 for the remainder of the 1989 season and was released in 1990 after starting at 18-31
