Edgar Martines was signed to a minor league contract by the Seattle Mariners in 1982. He would play with the Chattanooga Lookouts and Calgary Cannons before making his major league debut with the Mariners on Sept 12, 1987. A third baseman, Martinez was forced to become the Mariners designated hitter after he tore a hamstring in 1993. He won the batting title in 1995 with a .356 BA.
Martinez retired from the mariners in 2004
